Cross-Department Collaboration
Our team is driven, empathetic, and collaborative. Each day, we make it our mission to leave all egos at the door and work collectively to grow Skillshare as a brand. Cross-team collaboration is frequent and organic between departments. We’ve intentionally fostered an open and friendly atmosphere where team members can easily share ideas and bring them to life.
Our content marketing team will often work with our community and product teams to develop and maintain go-to-market plans for our Originals and Top Teacher content. Uncovering unique perspectives from those working directly with our community allows the marketing team to refine our message and best cater to target users.
It’s also common for our paid acquisition team to frequently work alongside our engineering, product, and finance teams to implement effective campaign tracking and budgets.

In a fast-paced environment, our team thrives from experimentation and learning. As a result, we’ve integrated education throughout our entire workplace, and constantly create ways to empower our team to grow as individuals.
We offer a myriad of professional development opportunities, including an annual budget to attend conferences, generous learning stipends, and ongoing internal learning programs.
Our CMO, Liana, believes leadership is as much about learning as it is about leading. As a leader, she’s intentional about building connections with her team to help their talents shine. Callan – one of our talented software engineers – started at Skillshare on our social community team. After discovering a passion for coding, he was provided with a mentor and on the job training to pursue these skills.
We believe that creativity is a journey and it’s never a straight path. Team members are given room to learn and grow both in and outside of work. As a community where users come to explore and expand their creativity, it’s just as important to build an internal culture that actively practices these same values.

We encourage team members to make marketing decisions based on data-driven driven insights from the resources we have available. Whether it be across our content or paid performance team, each member is fluid in understanding how to set, record, and analyze the right metrics to determine what adds genuine value to our business.
With a team that has a genuine passion for the industry, we’re constantly infatuated with experimenting across new channels, audiences, and content formats through rapid testing cycles. Taking ownership of our work allows us to proactively seek knowledge and insights, enabling us to better connect and serve our users.
Work/Life Balance
We believe that doing your best work means living a full life, and that means different things for each of our team members. We work hard, but provide the autonomy and tools to promote as much flexibility as possible.
There’s no such thing as “counting sick days” at Skillshare. If you’re sick, you don’t have to work – giving you time to properly rest and recover. We have an unlimited vacation policy with a set minimum of days off (not a maximum). We understand that well-rested team members are happier, more creative, and ultimately more productive.
For parents, we also offer 14 weeks of paid parental leave to both birth-giving and non-birth-giving parent/s. We know how important these precious moments in life are.
We invest to support and accommodate the needs of each team member throughout different stages of their lives. Our remote working program allows team members to work remotely for up to a month from anywhere in the world once they’ve been with us for a year. We also encourage our weekly work-from-home Tuesday’s to create a day where we can manage things like appointments or errands.
Through a combination of clear communication and trust across our entire team, we have the flexibility to enjoy a healthy balance between life and work.
Open Communication
When you spend your days working to build a community that fosters sharing and communication, it helps shape an internal culture that actively practices these values.
We strongly believe in making our management team accessible to all members. Regardless of your tenor, every perspective is welcome and feedback is strongly encouraged.
We create the time for each team member to engage in 1:1s with direct reports, participate in team-wide meetings, and share coffees with those from across departments.
Our drive for transparency also extends beyond immediate interactions within smaller teams. Our management team sets the precedent for company-wide transparency by clearly communicating the rationale for strategic decisions, as well as summaries of the company’s finances. We use the time in our weekly town halls to ensure everyone stays in the loop, as well as give recognition to those who’ve worked hard.
As a growing company, we understand we’re not perfect, but when there are ever issues, we actively acknowledge them and work to find the best solutions.
